An employment consultant should have demonstrated abilities in areas of human resources and social and community work. His main focus is on case management, life coaching, strategic employer relations and job development. He also consults and works with a multi-disciplinary team to provide documentation and support to referral sources. Additionally, he prepares the job seeker for employment by facilitating various seminars and workshops. He sources for potential employers as well as securing permanent employment for his clients.

    Responsibilities

  1. An employment consultant conducts an employment assessment, together with the client to determine the risks and needs in relation to employment goals. She also looks into the implementation plan and follows up with individual clients to assess the set employment goals. She helps clients to form suitable work habits, behaviors and attitudes. She assists clients in preparing for interviews and other job maintenance issues. She facilitates, develops and supervises groups or individual training in regard to issues that arise before formal employment. An employment consultant coaches clients about how to handle job interviews. She also gives them tips on how to negotiate a salary.

  3. An employment consultant should be confident and have a strong presence. He should have good communication skills. In addition, he should display leadership skills. He should also be amicable, responsible and a quick learner. He should have good socialization and interpersonal skills. He should be able to work under minimum supervision. He should be well-organized and have good time management. He should always be smartly dressed and look presentable at all times. He should be able to inspire and motivate his clients.
  4. Educational Qualifications

  5. An employment consultant typically requires a diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, human resources, adult education, psychology, career and work counseling. A master's degree will increase career prospects. He should also have a minimum of two years related experience especially in areas such as sales, marketing, file management, recruitment and job coaching.
  6. Certification

  7. Though it is not a must, it is advisable for an employment consultant to get some form of certification such as the Certified Employment Interview Consultant certification (CEIC). This certification takes on average six weeks to complete, according to CareerDirectors.com.
  8. Salary

  9. According to SalaryWizard.com, an employment consultant earns an average salary of $32,751 to $35,950 per year as of July 2010. This figure is influenced by the size of the organization, the location and level of experience.
