The employment background check is a scary part of starting any new job. If your new employer plans to run an employment background check on you, there are several things that you can do to make the process go more smoothly. This article will walk you through the steps of preparing yourself so that you will pass your employment background check with flying colors.
Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

  1. 1
Prepare for your employment background check by calling any previous employers that you have listed on your resume. It is a good idea to check in with your previous employers to let them know that you are applying for a new job and that they might be getting a call from your new employer. This way, they will be more prepared to say a few nice words about you when your new employer does call. It will also give you a chance to straighten out any problems or misunderstandings that you might have had with your former employer.
  2. 2
Stop doing drugs. Occasionally an employment background check will involve a drug test. Because drugs can stay in your system for some time it is important that you refrain from consuming any illegal drugs for at least a couple of months before your employment background check.
  3. 3
Do a thorough internet search for information about yourself. Your new employer will almost certainly Google your name as part of their employment background check; however, they will probably also check social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook. Check all of these sites and remove any incriminating information that you find. If there is a piece of information that you can't remove from the internet, you should assume that your new employer will find it--Have a story ready for when he asks you to explain it.
