    Job Postings

  1. Three resources for finding labor and employment paralegal positions are LinkUp.com, Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com. All allow potential candidates to register to receive search results by email. A representative sample of labor and employment paralegal jobs from LinkUp.com, Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com from late April 2010 can provide insight into education preferences, experience requirements and salary ranges.

  3. Of the job postings reviewed for this article, most positions required an associate degree or paralegal certificate, but also stated that a baccalaureate degree was "a plus" or "preferred." More law firms than in-house legal departments required a baccalaureate degree or required that a paralegal certificate be American Bar Association approved.
  4. Experience

  5. Only one of the reviewed job postings stated that the position was entry level. All others stated a requirement of between one and seven years of experience. Three to five years of experience appeared to be the most common requirement.
  6. Salary

  7. Only two of the reviewed job postings indicated a salary range; both were from staffing companies working on behalf of a corporation or law firm. A position listed by an Illinois staffing company that required a bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate with at least five years of experience stated a salary of up to $75,000 per year. A position listed by a New York staffing company that required a four-year degree and two to six years of experience stated a salary range of $50,000 to $70,000 per year. The remaining job postings either did not mention salary or stated that salary depended on experience.
  8. Duties

In its print and online publication, "Paralegal Responsibilities," the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) devotes a section to the duties and responsibilities of a labor and employment paralegal. According to NFPA, a labor and employment paralegal may expect to deal with a number of state and federal agencies, statutes and regulations. The agencies include the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Statutes and regulations include Americans with Disabilities Act and the Freedom of Information Act. A labor and employment job paralegal may draft pleadings, forms and position papers, conduct factual and legal research, conduct factual investigations and monitor federal and state regulations, according to NFPA.
